Overcoming addiction of any kind is an extremely difficult process, but one that must be endured in order to get your life back on track. Addictions include addiction to drugs, alcohol, sex, and gambling. A gambling addiction may not have the physical impact as other forms, but it can be just as harmful to yourself and to your family. Following are several ways of how to overcome your gambling addiction.

Stop Watching the Game
If you are hooked on betting on football, the first thing you need to do is cut football out of your life. Most likely you began betting on it, because you are very passionate about your team and sport and want to enjoy the game more by putting a few dollars down on it. If you don’t watch the games, read the newspaper, or listen to sports talk, your interests will change over time.

Consider the Opportunity Cost
Most gamblers never win because they keep betting. How much money have you spent at the casino, or sporting on the game? What could you do with that money going forward? Take the time to consider how much your nest egg could be by the time you retire if you invest your money as opposed to gambling it.

Join a Support Group
There are many people out there just like you. You need to disassociate your life with gambling. That may mean making new friends and developing new hobbies. Joining a support group will point you in new directions, and allow you to meet new people.
